“What is a Care Assistant in General Practice?”

A care assistant in general practice is an experienced medical assistant who has undertaken further advanced study and clinical training.

They assist GPs by making home visits and coordinating medical care as part of case management, especially in the care of elderly and multimorbid patients.

They also act as an interface between the GP, patients and social networks (outpatient care services, medical supply shops, medical specialists, hospitals, pharmacies, etc.).

They are also qualified to assist with vaccinations, medication, and chronic wound care according to the GP’s recommendations.

“What is a Non-Physician Practice Assistant?”

The Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) require medical assistants to undertake further training as non-physician practice assistants, while further training as a care assistant in general practice is a requirement in case of GP-centred care contracts with health insurance funds.

The quality requirements for care assistants in general practice and for non-physician practice assistants are similar and are also mutually recognized by many KVs. Care assistants in general practice and non-physician practice assistants strengthen the general practice as a central point of care.

In our practice, Elina Schneider, Ceylan Faik and Perihan Bozkurt have successfully completed further training as care assistants in general practice and non-physician practice assistants.
